O.k.....so I'm a little on the short side, o.k. a lot on the short side at only 4'11". When I have to prep a patient (when the surgical site is cleaned after the patient is asleep in order to hopefully kill all germs), sometimes I need a stepstool, especially if I am prepping the huge belly of a patient. I many times forget to position my stepstool before I get my sterile gloves on and have to ask someone in the room to get me a stepstool!
Now, we have a group of surgeons that are related at our hospital that are on the lower end of the curve for the height of men (is that politically correct enough for "they are short?!). Most of the time there is at least 2 of these surgeons working together on the same patient, many times 3,....and they all almost always need stepstools. So you can go in a room after a case is over and see a huge stack of stepstools, and immediately deduce that there must have been a Dr. X convention in here!!!!

That was really funny. I ahve this image in my head of surgery by stepladder all around the operating table.
That's funny! I guess I always thought all doctors and nurses could reach over the patients.
Goes to show that even medical staff are human :)

When I had my c-sections I had to use a stool then step on a chair to get on the operating table. No way could I get myself up there with just a stool. Your blog is great. I left you an award on my blog
